Gentle Parenting: What It Means for Caregivers

Aligning on Discipline

One of the biggest friction points in the home is mismatched discipline styles. If parents practice "Gentle Parenting" (authoritative) and the nanny practices "Strict Obedience" (authoritarian), the child becomes confused and anxious.

What is Gentle Parenting?

It is not permissive parenting. It is high empathy combined with high boundaries.

  1. Validate the Feeling: "I see you are angry that we have to leave the park."
  2. Hold the Boundary: "But it is time to go home for lunch."
  3. Offer a Choice: "Do you want to walk to the car or hop like a bunny?"

Interviewing for Alignment

When interviewing a nanny, ask: "What do you do when a toddler hits you?"
